The systematic torture and/or ill treatment of protected persons (children) and their unlawful transfer from occupied territory (2013-2023)

This report considers 1,100 testimonies collected from Palestinian children detained by Israeli military forces in the occupied West Bank between 2013 and 2023. The evidence confirms that the ill treatment of children held in Israeli military detention is widespread, systematic and institutionalised. The evidence also confirms the unlawful transfer of these children from occupied territory.

This report considers developments relating to the arrest and detention of children by the Israeli military in the occupied West Bank in 2022. Based on 100 testimonies the report includes information on: night arrests; physical violence; solitary confinement; denial of basic legal rights; administrative detention; unlawful discrimination; and the unlawful transfer of children from occupied territory.

This report considers developments relating to the detention of children by the Israeli military in the West Bank in 2016/17. In addition to reviewing relevant legal and procedural changes the report considers the findings from 127 testimonies obtained from children detained during 2016. The report also considers: unlawful transfer of prisoners; dual legal systems; and the link between detention and settlements.

UN submission: Children in Israeli military detention (July 2016)

This submission reviews recent developments in the military courts as well as analysing 393 testimonies collected from children detained by the Israeli military since 2013. The submission concludes that despite a number of changes to the system, UNICEF's 2013 finding that "the ill-treatment of children who come in contact with the military detention system appears to be widespread, systematic and institulionised" still applies.

UN submission: children in military detention (March 2016)

This submission reviews recent developments in the military courts as well as analysing 163 testimonies collected from children detained by the Israeli military in 2015. The submission concludes that despite a number of changes to the system, UNICEF's 2013 finding that "the ill-treatment of children who come in contact with the military detention system appears to be widespread, systematic and institulionised" still applies.
