Pilot programme to limit night arrests - update

[22 September 2016] - Following widespread criticism of the use of night raids to arrest children in the West Bank, the military authorities announced in February 2014, the introduction of a pilot programme to issue written summons in lieu of night arrests. The programme commenced in the Nablus and Hebron districts.

Restraints and blindfolds - Update

[29 August 2016] - Following numerous complaints and legal action concerning pain and injury caused by the use of single plastic hand ties by the Israeli military on detainees, including children, the office of the Military Advocate General announced the introduction of new procedures.

UK lawyers' report: 4 years on less than 3% of recommendations have been implemented

[June 2016] - This month marks four years since a delegation of British lawyers published a report on the treatment of Palestinian children under Israeli military law. The Foreign Office funded report - Children in Military Custody - found undisputed evidence of violations of international law.

US State Department Human Rights Report (2015)

[April 2016] - On 14 April the US State Department released its annual global report on human rights for 2015. The report includes a section on Israel/Palestine and an examination of the treatment of minors detained by the Israeli military and prosecuted in military courts.

UN complaint submission: children in military detention (2016)

[March 2016] - On 1 March 2016, Military Court Watch (MCW) lodged a complaint submission under the UN Special Procedures mechanism relating to the treatment of children held in Israeli military detention in 2015. Since the publication of a report by UNICEF in 2013 there has been little substantial improvement in the system.
