Military courts failing to adequately consider release on bail in the absence of lawyers

[22 May 2017] - Following the decision on 17 April by approximately 1,200 Palestinian prisoners to commence a hunger strike in protest of Iraeli prison conditions, the majority of defence lawyers have been boycotting the military courts in solidarity with the prisoners since 3 May 2017.

Military Authority Releases Arrest Data For 2015

[27 April 2017] - According to data recently released by the military and police 871 children were arrested in the West Bank in 2015. The data was released in response to a Freedom of Information application submitted by the Association of Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI).

Social welfare reports for bail applications in the military courts - Supreme Court petition

[March 2017] - On 27 February 2017, the law firm of Gaby Lasky & Partners filed a petition in Israel's Supreme Court seeking an order requiring the production of social welfare reports at every remand hearing involving a child. It is anticipated that the Supreme Court will hear the petition during the second half of 2017.

The right to a lawyer and admissibility of evidence - case analysis

[March 2017] - Ofer military court rejects a statement obtained from a minor who was denied access to a lawyer prior to interrogation. In rejecting the admissibility of the statement the court noted that the interrogating authorities had "blatantly violated the rights granted to the Defendant."

US State Department's Human Rights Report for 2016

[March 2017] - On 3 March 2017, the US State Department published its annual global report on human rights for 2016. The report is mandated by Congress and documents human rights violations in nearly 200 countries and territories. As in previous years the report considers the treatment of children held in Israeli military detention.
